Minister Pieter De Crem joins Belgian Princely Economic Mission to China

2019, November 18

Minister Pieter De Crem travelled to the People’s Republic of China last Saturday. He joins the Belgian Princely Mission in his capacity as Minister in charge of Foreign Trade. The delegation consists of members of the federal government and state governments, and a large group of CEOs, researchers and academics. The next few days will include seminars and meetings in order to set up a Belgian-Chinese partnership on environment and climate, cooperation between both countries on so-called ‘third markets’ and Belgian commitments in the Chinese biopharmaceutical industry.

“China has the ambition to become the largest and strongest economic player in the world in the short term. This ambition holds many opportunities for our Belgian companies. There are however a number of challenges to be mindful of, for instance with regard to intellectual property rights and patents”, said Minister De Crem. “A mission like this is the perfect opportunity to build mutual trust and to have a more complete picture of what our partners are sensitive to. It will be an intensive but hopefully fruitful mission”, concludes Minister De Crem.
