Belgian delegation and Minister De Crem continue their economic mission in Shanghai

2019, November 21

After a first stop in the Chinese capital of Beijing where the Belgian economic mission started, the entire Belgian delegation has now set course for Shanghai.

Shanghai is the most densely populated city in the world with approximately 25 million inhabitants. In addition, the city is the financial and economic heart of China. Here too, the intention is to conclude (economic) cooperation agreements between Chinese and Belgian companies.

Many of the companies that are part of the Belgian economic mission, are already doing business in China. Approximately 300 Belgian companies are active in Shanghai itself and in the neighboring provinces of Jiangsu and Zhejiang. Minister De Crem : “During this economic mission, the Belgian companies already active in China, will have an important role as mentor and guide for companies wanting to set up a business in the People’s Republic of China. Solvay, for example, already employs 3,000 people on 11 industrial sites and is announcing an additional expansion of its Research & Innovation Center. Their network and experience in China is of tremendous value for companies wishing to establish themselves here.”

There will also be a focus on culture in Shanghai. The ‘Walloon Export Agency’ (AWEX) and the ‘Flanders Investment & Trade’ (FIT) will present the added value, knowledge and expertise of our country and its federate states.
