Ministerial decree with regard to new measures published in the Belgian Official Gazette

2020, March 18

The new Ministerial Decree with regard to the measures announced yesterday in order to fight against the coronavirus, was published this morning in the Belgian Official Gazette.

The new measures are stricter and more restrictive than those announced on Thursday, March 12, 2020. Based on scientific advice, these more stringent measures were deemed necessary in order to counter the further spread of the virus and to keep its consequences under control.

Minister Pieter De Crem pleads for a restrictive interpretation of the new texts : “Our people ask for general measures that can be consistently applied to everyone. This is only possible if these measures are interpreted as being either black or white : either something is allowed or it isn’t. You have the measures from the text and you interpret them as narrowly as possible. As far as I’m concerned, there’s no need to make exceptions or to address hypothetical questions. Rules are rules and they need to be observed”.
