End of a successful State Visit to Denmark
28 – 30 March 2017
Secretary of State for Foreign Trade Pieter De Crem attended the State Visit to Denmark of Their Majesties the King and the Queen of the Belgians from 28 to 30 March 2017. Next to the Minister-Presidents of the different Belgian entities, an important academic and economic delegation was also attending the Visit.
The aim of the State Visit was to strengthen the historical bonds between Denmark and Belgium, not in the least on an economic level. During the whole visit, there was a strong emphasis on business and trade. Indeed, bilateral trade between Belgium and Denmark is already important, yet it also shows a large growth margin, as also highlighted by De Crem on numerous occasions and in his speeches.
The official delegation and the 35 accompanying companies focused in particular on themes such as sustainable development, renewable energy, health, transportation and logistics, and Smart City Solutions.
As mayor of the town of Aalter, De Crem recently launched a collaboration with LivingTomorrow/TomorrowLab in order to transform Aalter further into a Smart City. The Royal Couple also pays a great attention to the topic and the evolution towards an intelligent and sustainable society. This Visit thus also provided the perfect opportunity to exchange experiences with the Danes, who are world leaders in Smart City Solutions.
The State Visit thus clearly reached its intended objective, which was to strengthen and deepen the ties between the two countries on a cultural, academic, political, and above all an economic level.
