On 9 May, the European Union Member States celebrate Europe Day to commemorate the Schuman Declaration that led to the creation of the European Coal and Steel Community. In the following years and decades, this cooperation would extend and deepen to become the European Union we know today.


In other words, the foundations of the European Union are based on economic cooperation and free trade. The European Union has become the largest single market in the world with nearly 500 million customers. This internal market is also very attractive for foreign investors. The European Union not only wants to stimulate free trade between the European Member States, but also focuses on free trade agreements with the rest of the world. Through its global trade network, the EU negotiates trade agreements with partners worldwide, with agreements recently concluded with countries such as Canada and Japan.
