Keynote speaker at the Trade and Investment Partnership Summit 2017 of the EU India Chamber of Commerce

This morning, Secretary of State for Foreign Trade Pieter De Crem opened the Trade and Investment Partnership Summit, organized by the Euro India Chamber of Commerce. In presence of, among others, the Indian Ambassador for Belgium, Luxembourg and the EU, HE Ms. Gaitri Issar Kumar, Secretary of State De Crem held the keynote address in which he discussed the economic part of the recent State Visit of Their Majesties the King and Queen of the Belgians to India.

Secretary of State De Crem pays particular attention to economic cooperation between Belgium and India and has already headed several missions to Delhi and Mumbai, accompanied by Belgian companies. The State Visit that took place early November marked a high point in bilateral relations and paid particular attention to economic cooperation between Belgium and India, with the participation of 84 Belgian CEO’s. De Crem also emphasized the need for further diversification of trade between our countries, and the important role that Belgian companies play in the further development of India. During the State Visit, 37 contracts and memorandums of understanding have been signed and many more opportunities for future cooperation have been discussed.

Today, India is already one of the most important non-European trading partners of Belgium and De Crem expects that the importance of our bilateral trade relations will only further increase. He also emphasized the many advantages of Belgium for Indian investors and, after the realization of a direct connection between Brussels and Mumbai, he will continue to work for a new direct connection between our capital and the Indian capital Delhi.
