Ground Breaking Ceremony of Hai Phong International Gateway

Mission Vietnam – Belgian Group Rent-a-Port

On October 5th, Secretary of State Pieter De Crem attended the Ground Breaking Ceremony of Hai Phong International Gateway Port Industrial Zone – Deep C III in Vietnam.

It all started 20 years ago when the Belgian group Rent-a-Port together with both Vietnamese and Belgian Government founded Dinh Vu industrial zone. It was one of the first Belgian and even European projects in Vietnam. Two decades later, the DEEP C industrial zones have turned a vision into reality and is now one of the most vibrant industrial areas in Vietnam and the largest Belgian project in the country.

The park was built and conceived on a Belgian port model, similar to the realization in the port of Antwerp and the port of Ghent. Key is having a direct link between the port area and the industrial hinterland. This allows companies to have significant advantages in terms of optimizing construction of infrastructure and utilities, optimizing supply chain and maximizing the value added.

Secretary of State De Crem also had a meeting with the mayor of the port city of Hai Phong. They discussed the development of the city and the opportunities for Belgian companies. The projects of Rent-a-Port have also been discussed. The Belgian company has already invested 200 million euros in the development of the port and plans investments for another 250 million euros.
