Speech at the Investment Power Lunch in Busan

Attracting new Korean investments to Belgium

On Friday, June 16th, Secretary of State for Foreign Trade Pieter De Crem held a speech at the Investment Power Lunch in Busan. The port city of Busan is the second largest city of the country and has the largest port of Korea and one of the largest container ports in the world.

In his speech, De Crem emphasized Belgium’s many assets as a gateway to the European single market, mainly thanks to the seaports of Zeebruges, Ghent, and Antwerp. He also elaborated on the important diplomatic role of our country as home of the European institutions and NATO headquarters, and talked about the numerous economic assets we have to offer as an investment country to Korean companies. He recalled the very close bond between the Republic of Korea and the Kingdom of Belgium, which goes back to the Korean War, in which more than 3.000 Belgian soldiers fought and of whom more than 100 died in combat.

De Crem also invited Korean business leaders and policy makers to discover the Belgian assets with their own eyes and declared himself always available to discuss new investment opportunities and to further deepen the economic relations between our two countries.
