Princely economic mission to the Republic of Korea

Visit to the Demilitarized Zone

On Wednesday morning, the Belgian delegation with HRH Princess Astrid and Secretary of State Pieter De Crem visited the demilitarized zone between South and North Korea. This zone was created in 1953, during the Korean truce. In 1950, Belgium heeded a call of the United Nations, by sending more than 3.000 soldiers to Korea, of whom more than 100 died in combat.

The second part of the day will focus on economic cooperation between Belgium and the Republic of Korea, with a meeting with the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, and a signing ceremony during which a number of contracts and memorandums of understanding will be signed.

The day will end with a Belgian reception that will honor the unique relationship between the Republic of Korea and the Kingdom of Belgium. This will also be a perfect opportunity for making new contacts, exchanging ideas, and discussing new projects.
